The Science and Preparation for an upcoming Cargo Delivery kicked off a busy week aboard the International Space StationMonday, as the Expedition 70The crew is focusing on stem cell research, orbital training and new space technology.

Two cosmonauts – Flight Engineers Oleg kononenko and Nikolai chub – are preparing to monitor the automated docking for the Progress 87 cargo vessel, which is scheduled for launchThe Baikonur Cosmodrome will be leaving Kazakhstan at 10:25 pm EST on February 14. Progress will dock around 1:12 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, with almost three tons of fuel, food, and supplies. In preparation for the upcoming cargo, the cosmonauts have been trained on the TORU (telerobotically controlled rendezvous unit), which allows them to control an arriving spacecraft remotely in the unlikely event that it could not dock automatically.

Then, there is the Progress 85A cargo craft that arrived at the station six months ago will detach from the station Monday, February 12, at 9:09pm. Three hours later, the craft will be instructed to deorbit and then burn up in the Pacific Ocean.
